Progress Update: September 2026

Here’s the latest draft of Firetaker. I’m at a confusing point in the development process:

  • I’ve written the basic rules, but they are still largely theoretical.
  • I need to provide requirements for my map and character sheet designers, but I want to finish more illustrations to give them a better idea of the look and feel.
  • I need to playtest the thing, but I want to use prewritten scenarios for structured testing.

So because of all of that, I’ve halted work on the core book to address some of these gaps. Playtesting is pivotal, so I’m currently focusing my efforts there. I’m designing three one-shot scenarios as trifold pamphlets. Why trifold pamphlets? I think Tuesday Knight Games’ ecosystem of trifold adventures is an ingenious way of reducing the barrier to entry. A single sheet of paper is magnitudes less intimidating to run than a 64-page module. Plus, I appreciate how such limited real estate forces you to be economical with your word count and layout.

The first scenario I’m writing is a monster hunt inspired by the Calydonian Boar myth using a slight variation of Mythic Bastionland’s hexcrawl rules. I hope to show off some of “The Stymphalian Bird Hunt” in next week’s blog, so please stay tuned!
